It’s January 20th, and the peaceful transition of power happened on time. Like many of you, I’ve been glued to the news, and making sure the information I do receive is authentic and true. It’s hard to do sometimes, as I make sure to get information from a wide variety of sources, from MSNBC to Fox News to everything in between (ABC News, Bloomberg, NY Times, Washington Post, etc.) It’s exhausting sometimes, but necessary.
And meanwhile, I’m building a new company, and it has been an amazing journey. With only 11 days to go before launch, I’m both excited and scared to death, lol.
It’s hard to believe that 12 months has already gone by when I was fired from my dream job as the head of DonorPerfect- a position I held since 2005 since starting at the company in 1995.
Yes, that’s right, I was fired.
Sure, when it happened, I likely went through the 5 stages of grief, and I’m not even sure if I am through the last one, lol.
But one thing I know for sure is that today, I am FREE. And HAPPY.
Free to build what I think is going to be a gamechanger for the *entire* non-profit community. Not just the big behemoths, but for all nonprofits who need help, and at a price that is directly related to the value provided.
And happy to be able to focus on the more important things, like family and community. Previously, I was a workaholic, and now? Well, I’d like to think that I work just as hard, but more strategically, delegating what I know I can’t (or should not) do, and counting on my co-workers, colleagues, and friends to contribute their personal amazing skills. And this allows me more time to spend with my family too, a win-win situation.
And I’ve been amazed at the response. I am so happy and thrilled that I have the support of my colleagues over the years and many of them joined my fundraising Expert Advisory Board. Many of you are reading this right now, and for that, I say “THANK YOU!”
The next two months are going to be uniquely challenging. While this will be the 5th time I’ve launched a major business/project, from DonorPerfect Online to DonorPerfect Crowdfunding to a $1.3 MM community youth baseball lights and parking lot, it’s the first time where I am on my own.
There is no net. There is no safety line.
It’s a high wire balancing act that will require skill, patience, risk taking, reliance and perseverance.
But I know I can do this. This will succeed, because failure is simply not an option.
